What can I complain about?

You can complain about any public or private health (including mental health), disability or aged care service provided in the Territory.

Your complaint might be about an individual. Individual practitioners include registered providers such as a doctor, nurse, physiotherapist, psychologist and chiropractor as well as unregistered providers such as a massage therapist or counsellor. Your complaint might also be about other individuals involved with providing a health, disability or aged care service; for example reception staff or support workers who provide an aged or disability service.

Your complaint might concern an organisation: a hospital, nursing home, supported accommodation, community health centre, drug and alcohol service, GP clinic, aged care service provider or disability support service.

You can complain about any aspect of care or treatment related to a health, disability or aged care service. This can include treatment planning, communication, information and consultation, the involvement of families and carers, and all services associated with a health, disability or aged care service such as meals or laundry.

The Commission cannot accept complaints about the process of writing a health report or the content of a health report.

Some complaints may be better managed by other agencies. While the Commissioner can accept complaints about aged care services in the NT, the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission is the most appropriate agency to handle these complaints. Complaints about service providers registered with the NDIS should be made to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
